Word wildcard searches

Just curious - is there any advantage, ever, to using Word wildcard searches instead of regex? It looks to me like Word wildcards are, in practice, a subset of regex and I can’t think of a search one would want to do with wildcards instead. Is this option just redundant? Or am I missing something?

There is no advantadge in using MS Word Wildcards.

Back in the day, we thought that translators would be a lot more familiar with MS Word Wildcards than they would be with RegEx so we added both grammars.

Both are kept for legacy support reasons, although probably the most used one nowadays is RegEx.
