Key term false positives - multiple terms for one TB entry

I am using Key Terms to check use of TB terms in Trados Studio.

When a term has more possible translations in the termbase, Xbench flags all missing terms even when I have in fact used one of them. For example, if “car” has two possible translations, let’s say “bil” and “køretøj”, in the target language then Xbench flags “køretøj” as missing even if I have used “bil” in the target. Xbench should of course recognize that if one of the possible translation terms have been used it should not flag the other term as missing.

Is there any way to work around this?

I have not been able to reproduce it. Make sure to download and install the most recent public build from Download (currently 1603).

Hi omartin,

Thank you for your reply. I already have build 1603 and I can see that “Gemma” had the same issue, but as no one replied, I created a new ticket here in the forum (see https://forum.xbench.net/t/multi-term-entries-in-key-terms-check/1281 ).

Can I just say how I use the function before submitting a bug? Maybe I am doing something basic incorrectly.

I load the project from Studio using the button in the review tab. When Xbench then is open, I go to “Project” → “Properties” and then check “Key Terms” in the Files tab while having the desired TB selected, and finally “Check Ongoing Translation”.

How are the entries in the termbase created?

  1. 1 entry for car = bil and another one car = køretøj
  2. Just one entry with source and multiple translations

If they are created in the first way, Xbench will report keyterm mismatches. However, if they are created in the second way, Xbench will not report these cases.

Example:

I must admit that I had not checked. Thank you for making the sharp distinction.

Looks like you are right. I have recently acquired a new client who has a TB with a lot of double entries created in “the first way”. So, there is no way to work around that? (I would still consider it false positives when Xbench is flagging non-usage even if there are two separate entries)

Here is the link (Merging terms) to the official documentation on how to merge duplicate terms.

Alright, thank you for your help

Each entry in the termbase (Multiterm) allows synonyms in the source and target languages.
